In 2022, the team at Altes contacted Black Lab Five to help them resurrect a brand from their historic past. Altes is one of the oldest beers brewed in Michigan, originating more than 100 years ago before closing in the 1990s. Detroit National Brewing Co. relaunched the brand in 2016, and recently asked Black Lab Five to help “relaunch” Altes Sportsman Copper Lager. Black Lab Five designed a 12 oz can based off the original Sportsman can design from the 1950s which features numerous Michigan factoids. BL5 also created the 12 pack artwork, which includes an original Fly Fisherman illustration by Kent Elliott.
